Modeling Computation: A Comparative Synthesis of TMK and ZD

چکیده

How do we build computational models of computation itself? This paper analyzes two such modeling languages from the perspective of building a third language which integrates their advantages. The ZD language Liver & Allemang, 1985, Allemang, 1997] models software components and conngurations in support of veriication and reuse. models intelligent systems in support of failure-driven learning and other reasoning tasks. I claim that these objectives are ultimately diierent perspectives on the same problem, thus suggesting that the integration of the languages is possible. I further claim these diierent perspectives do lead to substantive diierences in capabilities, thus suggesting that the integration of the languages may provide signiicant beneets over either language viewed in isolation.

Semi-Formal Functional Software Modeling with TMK

The Task-Method-Knowledge (TMK) modeling language is a formal mechanism for describing a software system. It was created as a knowledge representation framework for intelligent systems. The main idea behind TMK is that effective reasoning about a system is supported by a description of both what a system does and how it works. TMK models are referred to as functional models because they focus o...

A Study of Process Languages for Planning Tasks

We present the semantics of processes for planning tasks. We target Task-Method-Knowledge (TMK) process models, a widely used formalization of processes. These semantics are formalized by proving that Task-Method-Knowledge (TMK) process models can be translated into equivalent Hierarchical Task Networks (HTNs). We construct a Turing-computable translation function that maps TMK process model co...

Prolegomena to a Task-Method-Knowledge Theory of Cognition

How can we integrate interrelated theories of individual elements of cognition? Computational models of reasoning processes encode an understanding of reasoning. Consequently, a computational modeling language may be ideally suited to the presentation of theories of cognition. By representing theories of a variety of phenomena in a single modeling language, we can potentially explore how these ...

The Design of the Best Heat Integrated Separation Systems Using Harmony Search Algorithm

The synthesis of heat integrated multi-component distillation systems is complex due to its huge search space for structural combination and optimization computation. To provide a systematic approach and tools for the synthesis design of distillation systems, a new method for modeling heat integrated columns is presented, and the operating cost objective function is minimized by improved harmon...

Mathematical Modeling of Gas Adsorption Processes in Packed Bed: The Role of Numerical Methods on Computation Time

Rigorous mathematical modeling of adsorption processes in packed beds involves time-consuming computations which are considered as the fundamental weakness of such thorough mathematical models. Thus, reducing the computation time was a key factor in improving adsorption mathematical models. In order to achieve this goal, an attempt was made to know how much using different numerical methods inf...
